Also, we hit off the deadly Assassin game last Wednesday. Several popsicle stick-induced deaths have already taken place, so try to make a web of casualties to keep track of your potential attackers.

Run while you can!

Events galore!

So, we’ve got a ton of events coming up real soon. Get ready for:

CULTURAL OPEN HOUSE: Free food and networking opportunities with cultural organizations within GVSU, as well as in the Grand Rapids community. Come Monday, March 18 at 6:30pm to the Grand River Room of Kirkhof Center. For more info, see the Facebook event.

R.I.C.E. CONFERENCE: Our 13th annual academic and professional conference to raise cultural and Asian awareness. This year’s theme is rediscovery. ALL workshops and the program schedule are now posted! Check out the links and read about our keynote speaker. Register here! See you on Saturday, March 23 from 9am-4pm in the Loosemore Auditorium of DeVos Center on the Grand Rapids GVSU Pew Campus.

BE THE MATCH: Have the opportunity to save someone’s life and fight blood cancer by joining the national bone marrow donor registry. Joining is free, painless, and only 1 in 500 registry members are actually called to donate in their lifetimes. Please consider this amazing opportunity and read more here. The event will be on Tuesday, April 2 from 8am-4pm in the Grand River Room of Kirkhof Center.

Happy Spring Break!

Hey everyone! Get ready for a lovely vacation from school. Thanks to everyone who came to the Recognition Banquet–it was a smashing success, and everyone looked as dapper as it gets.

As stated earlier, we’ll be holding elections when we return from the break on Wednesday, March 13. Ryan Hienhuis, a representative from Michigan Blood, will be coming in briefly to talk about the Be The Match registry that ASU is hosting on April 2nd.

If you’re running, prepare a 2-3 minute speech and be prepared for questions that the audience asks. You are responsible for knowing the duties of  your position, so take a chance to review the ASU constitution here.

Our annual RICE conference is fast approaching, so make sure you register! The registration link can be found on both the top and bottom of this page–we really want to see you there. :)

Have a wonderful vacation!

The ASU Recognition Banquet: A Black & White Affair

Recognition Banquet

Please join us for hors d’oeuvres and decadent desserts at our first ever Asian Student Union Recognition Banquet: A Black and White Affair. This awards and appreciation ceremony will take place in Kirkhof Center Room 2266 next Wednesday, February 27, at 7pm. Please remark that this is not our normal meeting time, as the event will be taking place an hour later than usual.

Black and white semi-formal attire is requested, and we ask that attendees RSVP on OrgSync.

Nominations for the 2013-2014 Executive Board

Welcome to the official page of the Asian Student Union of Grand Valley State University, and our first official blog post.

This past Wednesday, we began our nominations for next year’s executive board. The nominees are as follows:

President: Sage Gendron
Vice President: Jenna Bradshaw & Samuel Cho
Secretary: Christy Nguyen & Victoria Sun
Treasurer: Cuong Van & Brandon Nguyen
Activities Coordinator: Diana McCrumb & Billy Ong
R.I.C.E. Coordinator: Celina Yang
Public Relations Officer: Alexandria Hylton & Charlie Gendron
Service Chair: Nickolai Kim & Cuong Van

If you have any additional nominations, feel free to comment on this post or e-mail us. Also, contact us if you would like to nominate yourself, decline a nomination, or change the position(s) you are running for.

Elections will take place during the meeting after spring break on Wednesday, March 13 at 6pm. If you are nominated, prepare a 2-3 minute speech for each position you are nominated for. For example, if you are running for both Treasurer and Service Chair, one speech will explain why you are best suited for the Treasurer position, and the other speech will express the same thing for the Service Chair position.
