Asian New Year Festival

January 31st, 2013 | 6-9pm | Grand River Room | Kirkhof Center | Allendale, MI

In many Asian cultures, the beginning of the year is based on the lunar calendar rather than the internationally accepted Gregorian calendar of Western culture. As such, the first day of the lunar month falls on February 10 of this year. To celebrate the lunar new year, Asian Student Union hosts a marvelous and free festival that attracts over 500 attendees annually.

The celebration consists of various entertaining performances, including cultural and modern dances, martial arts demonstrations, and a traditional dragon dance. In past years, Asian New Year Festival has featured Philippine tinikling, Japanese Taiko drummers, Chinese yo-yo artists, a Bhangra dance group. Attendees will be able to try various different Asian cuisines.
